Coping with the Coronavirus

The outbreak of Coronavirus can be stressful. Fear about an invisible enemy can cause fear, anxiety, and panic. Coping with stress makes you stronger and helps those around you to be calmer. Those with preexisting mental health conditions need to continue their medication and treatment. Be aware of new or worsening symptoms. We are all in this together, and if we look at the positive, it will bring us closer and more connected.

Here are 10 tips to reduce stress and anxiety:

1.     Exercise regularly at least three times a week for at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity. If you can, exercise with loved ones.

2.     Breathe. Practice deep breathing for at least 5 minutes each day. Meditate each day, use apps if needed for directed meditation.

3.     Eat healthy, well-balanced meals. Stay away from refined sugary desserts, which feed viruses.

4.     Stay in touch with loving, supportive, trusting family and friends.

5.     Use the time doing those activities that bring you joy and happiness.

6.     Practice excellent, hygiene and social distancing to protect yourself, your family and others. Stay at home.

7.     If you are able, reach out to those more vulnerable with groceries or to stay in touch.

8.     Make a list of all the things you are grateful for.

9.     Seek support from mental-health professionals and download destressing apps.

10.  Maintain a healthy routine and schedule.
